On October 29, the Miao People’s Jielong Dance was staged in Guanhou Village, Qianzhou Subdistrict, Jishou City, attracting Miao people in costumes from surrounding areas to celebrate the harvest and wish the motherland prosperity and peace.
The Miao People’s Jielong Dance was included in the third batch of Hunan Province’s intangible cultural heritage projects in 2012. The dance mainly includes rituals such as worshiping the dragon, welcoming the dragon, and comforting the dragon. On the day, the village was bustling with activity. Beating drums and holding umbrellas, the Miao people formed a long dragon of over 700 meters and paraded through the village. The people following behind sang and danced together to celebrate the harvest.
“It used to be the spiritual sustenance of Miao people, but now it is held once a year to celebrate the harvest in autumn, and also to show the spirit of Miao people,” said a villager who came for the event. They sang Miao songs, performed dragon dance, and played Miao drums, showcasing their current happy life.
A villager from Danqing Town said, “People go travelling not just to see mountains and water, but also to understand the local culture, which helps better promote local tourism.
With the development and progress of the times, the Miao People’s Jielong Dance has shone brightly in the process of cultural and tourism integration, and promoted the connection between intangible cultural heritage and modern life.
